THE BENEFICE OF ST. GEORGE OAKENROD AND ST. CLEMENT, SPOTLAND - September 2021
Welcome to this month’s newsletter. We welcome returning members of both our congregations.
From Sylvia at St. Clement
After our PCC meeting on 27th July, we decided to carry out the risk assessment to enable us to fully open the Church. Eddie and Carole will carry out this and pass it on to the PCC to approve.
There was a wedding held in church on 31st July. It was nice to hear the children's choir from the bride's school who performed on the day. The flowers were so nice to see, and the Church looked lovely, and nearly back to some form of normality after so long.
There are still quite a few of the congregation who are quite anxious about returning to church. However, we have made facilities in church to accommodate them to keep safe and social distance if they prefer this until they feel confident again.
We have just had a new security alarm fitted in church as the old one was 20 years old and not fit for purpose.
Doreen will be having the first Monday Nighters group on Monday 6th September
From St. GEORGE ‘S
At our last PCC meeting we arranged diary dates until the end of the year. You will find the complete list at the end of this letter. Harvest gifts will be donated to the food bank so please bear this in mind when you are selecting your gifts.
We will be requiring people to man stalls at the Christmas Fair so please think about it and give your name s to Beryl ASAP. As funds have been depleted over the last 18 months, we desperately need to make it a success. More information about events will be given in the months ahead.
After the service on 3rd October, we will be having a welcome back gathering, when we will serve bacon baps and prosecco. To help with catering please let me know if you are able to stay for the event. (I would hate not to have enough for you all!!!)
We decided to carry on with the service as it is, for the moment and will review the situation re returning to our full service at the next PCC meeting.
As usual we are still looking for members to help clean the hall (contact Beryl) or keep the garden in order (contact Gill Holt)
There is a new group starting in the hall on the 3rd Tuesday of the month 1-3pm. COFFEE ROCKERS is intended for carers and people who live alone, but anyone is welcome. Please book your place by contacting the no. on the flyer on the notice board or contact me. (I will get the no. this week).
Alas I have still haven’t completed the coffee rota as I have had a complete week doing nothing. Very naughty of me I know. But I will get it done ASAP. But I must point out that we are using disposable cups, disposable dish cloths and the pot towels have been moved! We are NOT boiling milk and black coffee is served with milk in jugs or prepacked containers The PCC decided that for the time being we must be very careful about contamination etc. Please help us in this quest. I know it’s not as it was but for the time being it is better than nothing.
Please let me have any contributions for the next letter by 25th October. Many thanks.
